Abstract



Both the meanwhile extended portfolio of the Research Group (SMG) and the proclaimed objective to establish continuing interdisciplinary research on the field of material moisture measurement finally led to the foundation of the Competence Center for Material Moisture (CMM) at the University of Karlsruhe at the beginning of the year 2008. The CMM will carry on with the investigation of moisture induced and controlled processes on the basis of a substantiated characterization of materials and the necessary development of new measurement methods.

An important module to achieve these goals remains the regular exchange of experiences within our workshop series ‘Innovative Moisture Measurement in Theory and Praxis’. This year our important forum for manufacturers, experts and users of moisture measuring techniques offered for the fifth time interesting news and results on manifold aspects of material moisture measurement problems.

This year’s program was themed ‘material properties and processes’ and addressed important topics such as high frequency electronics, material properties and building sensors. With contributions ranging from wireless sensor networks over microwave resonance and near infrared techniques up to the characterization of microbial populations in clay materials or biofilms in building materials, this conference offered the most versatile program so far.

We are proud of the fact that together with our partners, the MFPA Weimar and the BAM Berlin, we were successful in establishing a regular platform for the exchange of knowledge and competences on material moisture measurements and we look forward to seeing you at our next workshop on ‘Innovative Moisture Measurement in Theory and Praxis’ in 2011.
